Product Management

Product Management is an organizational function that guides every step of a product’s lifecycle- from development to positioning and pricing by focusing on the products and the targeted customers. The reality of today’s business world is that products are quickly uprooted and displaced in the market by newer products and better solutions.

Product management advocates for an intimate understanding of customers and the ability to create tailored solutions for them. It helps the team to achieve their business goals by bridging the communication gap between the customer and the business.

Product management focuses on user experience and represents the customer inside the organization. A product manager identifies emerging customer needs and the larger business objectives that a product or feature will fulfil. They know what success looks like for a product and mobilizes the team to turn that vision of success into reality.

Some key product management skills include a general understanding of data, industry insights and KPIs, strategic thinking, basic business skills, design and user experience knowledge, time management, etc. Some useful tools are product plan, prodpad, Microsoft Project, Amplitude, etc.
